Testimonials

The team lead by Shane Connaughton has recently completed the concrete package for the Icon Cancer Bunker at the Holmesglen Hospital in Moorabbin. The concrete package consisted of bored piers, slab on ground and 1,200mm thick in-situ bunker walls. The structure was to be constructed inside the existing hospital. The most complicating aspect of the package was the 1,200mm wide bunker walls. This was due to the lack of access at the external face of the wall. The methodology that Shane designed had the external 200mm of the wall being sprayed with shotcrete which allowed the shotcrete wall to be used as the external formwork for the internal 1,000mm wide in-situ wall. We were absolutely delighted with the extremely high quality of the walls. Overall, we found that Shane ran an excellent team who were easy to deal with and were very flexible when changes were made to the drawings. Excellent work from the crew, and in completing to satisfaction of follow on trades with no call backs for defects. We would have no hesitation in recommending Shane to other builders.

Balmain & Co. engaged Shane Connaughton to undertake the FRP for the Blower Building and Transformer Slab at the Western Treatment Plant. This was a project that had tight tolerances and required a high level of attention to detail. The project was completed on program and we were extremely happy with the quality of work as well as with the professionalism and conduct of Shane’s crew onsite. We look forward to working with Shane in the future and would have no hesitation in recommending them to other builders for their FRP packages.

During the past 4 years Shane Connaughton has completed numerous packages for us. In the early days Shane undertook minor packages but Shane and his team’s capacity, and professionalism have significantly increased to the extent that they have completed some of our biggest concrete packages. Shane has a very experienced and helpful crew with excellent on and off-site supervision. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Shane, it is great to know you are again able to help myself and our business at HLC Constructions for ongoing concrete and associated works management solutions. In the past you have assisted us on multiple projects in compiling methodologies to efficiently deliver complex concrete structures. Standouts for myself are: 2 Basements, 7 Levels above ground, GMHBA building in Geelong, advise given on high level pumping, pour sequences, formwork, and concrete placement. Topping an 18-storey building on St Kilda Rd, Melbourne, where research was done on methodologies to add 2 new levels to an occupied building in one of the busiest precincts in Melbourne. You were able to give invaluable advice on methods of static line pumping, cantilevered perimeter scaffolding to avoid scaffolds to ground, staging, management of PT, and formwork systems where a huge focus was to allow materials to be transported via small material hoists and crawler cranes to avoiding oversized mobile crane needs in excess of 350 tonne. Therefore, avoiding the need for extensive and regular street closures. On all occasions you were quick to assist, creative in your thinking and showed an amazing depth of knowledge which was second to none. Without hesitation I would recommend your services to HLC and encourage others in need to consider your services also. If you wish to use this email as letter of appreciation, I welcome you to do so and I would be happy to discuss further with anyone wishing to understand more the depth and quality of assistance we received from you on those projects.

Shane Connaughton was awarded the concrete package for our project at Rosebud Primary School, where the scope included the construction of a two-story Learning Hub building as well as a Gymnasium. Having previously worked with Shane and his crew on a previous project, I had no concerns about their quality of work or their professionalism. I was not disappointed in this regard, and prior to the project commencing they had already issued several RFI’s which were able to be resolved meaning that certain delays onsite were avoided. Throughout the project they were very proactive in their planning of upcoming works offsite which resulted in their crews onsite being very productive. We were extremely happy with the quality of the work that Shane’s crew produced. This was especially true regarding the construction of the 6m high feature columns at the front of the building, as well as the tiered seating and steps. Their methodology for these works was issued well before works commenced which included all steps that were taken to ensure the safety of all the people onsite. I look forward to working with Shane in the future and have no hesitation in recommending him for complex concrete packages.
